j@1040: Estimates of Arctic ozone loss from temperature
j@1040: ===============================================
j@1040:
j@1040: Here you can see the temporal development of the area with
j@1040: temperatures below a typical threshold temperature that is needed for
j@1040: for chlorine-catalyzing polar ozone depletion. The mean value of the
j@1040: volume of these low temperatures is a measure of the Ozone depletion.
j@1040:
j@1040: The upper panel shows the temporal development of the area with temperatures
j@1040: below this temperature threshold. The lower panel shows the corresponding
j@1040: volume (solid line) and the mean value between mid-December and
j@1040: End of March (dotted line and right arrow).
j@1040: For comparison, the corresponding mean values of other years are shown as coloured
j@1040: arrows displayed at the right edge of the plot. In 2011 this quantity was
j@1040: about :math:`38 \cdot 10^6` km :math:`^3`.
